What is the importance of these think tanks? What is think tank defense and how does it shape politics across the globe?

What is The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies?

The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, or FDD, has been a right-leaning organization pushing for aggressive policies in the Middle East. Their foundation was only a few days after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

Their founders are a tight-knit group of pro-Israel philanthropists. The organization was a keen supporter of the Bush Administration’s War on Terror during the early 2000s.

Since then, it has been a vocal opponent to Middle Eastern powers like Iran.

In recent years, FDD has had a strong focus on Iran. In particular, they were one of the largest vocal opponents to the treaty with Iran in 2015, fearing that it gave Iran far too much leverage.

They have no attachments to the Republican party and deny any strong desires to influence particular political parties. That said, their aggressive nature has pushed them in line with many policies in the past.

The Focus on Israel

Many of the supporters of FDD are “Pro-Israel”. As such, the FDD takes a very strict Israel focused approach, making Israel a cornerstone for their dealings with the Middle East.

Think tank defense and the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies are two major ideas that show that American politics can be a tangle of a massive amount of different interests.
